A sad incident occurred in Corfu: two Ukrainian women without signs of life were found on the Apotripiti beach in Sidari.
As reported by kerkyrasimera.gr, two tourists from Ukraine, 50 and 30 years old, mother and daughter, came to Apotripiti beach to swim, despite the fact that the sea was rough due to stormy winds blowing in the area. According to the same information, the women, identified by a bracelet on their wrist, lived in a hotel in the area and visited Corfu and the surrounding area every year.
The Coast Guard and firefighters made an organized effort to search and rescue them, although strong winds were blowing at the scene. One of the two women reportedly entered the sea to help the drowning woman.
Rescuers from the fire brigade approached the bodies of the two women from the cliff side of the beach as boats were unable to reach the site by sea due to large waves.
Rescue 112 was alerted. However, by the time rescuers arrived at the scene of the tragedy, both women had already drowned. It is unknown who saved whom, mother or daughter. The case is being investigated through forensic examination. Both women were taken by ambulance to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
