Kavala: the death of a Ukrainian sailor who fell into the sea

Tragedy in the port of Nea Karvali with a sailor who fell from a ship into the sea. The reasons for the fall remain unknown.

This is a 37-year-old Ukrainian man, a member of the crew of a cargo ship under the flag of St. Christopher and Nevis, moored at a commercial port Nea Karvali in Kavale. The sailor was found in the water and then disappeared from sight. A Coast Guard patrol boat and a fishing boat were immediately dispatched to the scene and a contingency plan was activated. writes CNN Greece.

The sailor was found in an inner harbor shelter, approximately ten meters from the stern of the ship, and was pulled from the water by the crew of the coast guard vessel. The man was taken by ambulance to Kavala General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The incident occurred on the morning of October 4. The central port authority of Kavala, which is conducting a preliminary investigation, ordered an autopsy to be carried out by the Thrace forensic service.
