Thessaloniki: Man convicted of using fake diploma

The accused organized lectures and seminars in various regions of Greece, where he spoke about the well-being of people, advertising the profile of a scientist with knowledge and research in the fields of medicine, biology, neuroscience and theology, and allegedly presented the relevant degrees.

He was even invited to appear on television until a complaint was filed against him by scientific bodies in 2017, which led to an investigation by “Σώματος Επιθεωρητών Υγείας”. This investigation seems to have established that he used a fake diploma from a foreign universityand for this reason he was subsequently charged accordingly.

The 55-year-old man was eventually found guilty by the three-member Thessaloniki Court of Appeal, guilty and sentenced to 18 months in prison suspended for 3 years (without mitigating circumstances)The defendant had degrees from academic institutions that did not exist (or did not award such degrees), the district attorney said, among other things, in his statement.

The citizen had previously been convicted by the Katerini Criminal Court, which had “punished” him for the same act with a two-year prison sentence (with a second suspension of execution).

The man failed to appear for the appeal hearing and was represented by a lawyer who denied all the charges against his client. He said his director received a degree in physical therapy in Germany and that he had never practiced medicine professionally. He also stressed that the accused received his diploma by completing online distance learning courses, and that he had no intention of misleading anyone.
