The first month of autumn remains unusually rainy and unseasonably cool, with local storms and downpours. For tomorrow, September 18, meteorologists are predicting a particularly difficult day with intense weather events. Thunderstorms are expected across most of the country.

The director of the National Meteorological Service, Thodoris Kolidas, speaks of locally strong phenomena, mainly in Macedonia, Thessaly, the Sporades, eastern Strea, Evia and the Ionian Sea, but does not call them extreme:

“Today, Tuesday 17 September, rain and isolated storms are expected in Macedonia, Thessaly, Sporades, eastern Strea, Evia and the Ionian Sea. In the evening, the effects are likely to be strong in some places in the west.”

In the Ionian Sea, Epirus, western Strea, Macedonia, Thessaly, Sporades and northern Evia, clouds with rain and storms, which, mainly in the Ionian Sea and Thessaly, will be strong in places. In the evening, the phenomena will temporarily weaken. In the rest of the mainland (except Thrace), as well as in southern Evia, unstable weather with increased cloudiness, at times, mainly at midday and in the afternoon, with local rain and isolated storms. In the rest of the country, rare clouds give way to cloudiness.

Forecast for Thursday, September 19

In the Ionian Sea, Macedonia, Thessaly, the Sporades and northern Evia, clouds with local rain and sporadic storms, especially strong in the Ionian Sea. The phenomena will weaken towards evening. In the rest of the mainland, in southern Evia and in the mountains of Crete, increasing cloud cover in the midday and afternoon hours, local rain and isolated storms will occur. Initially in the west, in Macedonia, Thessaly, Sporades and northern Evia, cloud cover temporarily increased, accompanied by local rains and sporadic storms. On the Ionian Sea, on the mainland (except Thrace), on the Sporades and Evia, clouds with local rains and storms, mainly until midday. In the rest of the country, cloudiness will increase in places and at times.

According to the forecast of Yannis Kallianos, who speaks of a three-day period of unstable weather starting on Tuesday, September 17, with the phenomena intensifying on Wednesday, the bad weather phenomena will begin to weaken on Thursday.

In turn, meteorologist Clearchos Marousakis warns of dangerous weather conditions, mainly in the western, central and northern regions of the country. He notes in his postthat in some places there will be heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong lightning, hail and sudden increase in wind. The phenomena will begin on Tuesday, September 17 and will last until at least Friday.
