78-year-old Greek Dimitris Papadimitriou, who went missing in Istanbul, was spotted by a taxi driver while he was sleeping.
While the elderly man was being searched for for nine days, he wandered the streets of the city, lost and unable to contact the police because he did not know the language. “I slept on the grass,” he says.
The Greek consulate in Istanbul even opened champagne to celebrate the happy ending of this “thriller”, and Ambassador Konstantinos Koutras applauded him and called him “super grandpa”, writes CNN Greece.
Dimitris Papadimitriou's son and granddaughter have been in Turkey for several days to conduct an investigation. Recall that the elderly man separated from his group on September 5 at Taksim Square, but never returned to the hotel. Dozens of Turkish and Greek residents of Istanbul were looking for him and distributed leaflets about his disappearance.
