A 35-year-old man who set up a workshop for producing counterfeit documents has been detained

Yesterday in the center of Athens employees EL.AS A 35-year-old foreigner was arrested, accused of creating a gang engaged in forging documents, identity cards, and storing travel documents of third parties.

As emphasized in the relevant report, after proper use of the information it was established that the man was a member of a criminal group that was actively engaged in the preparation and sale of counterfeit travel documents intended for the illegal transport of immigrants to Europe and countries of the union, mainly by air transport.

Also in cooperation with EUROPOL It was established that the group under investigation had been actively involved in the preparation and trade of travel documents since 2021, and in 2021, German authorities seized a parcel containing counterfeit passports sent by the detainee.

According to ELAS, the man had a well-equipped laboratory for the preparation of counterfeit documentswhich had specialized professional equipment for printing and engraving documents and plastic cards, modern laser technology, as well as suitable raw materials.

It is also noted that among the confiscated items, a modern professional-type printing device with laser technology was found, which is not a common finding in routine counterfeiting laboratoriessince it greatly increases the printing house’s capabilities both in terms of quality characteristics and in terms of the “range” of documents that can be produced, especially on new types of forms that look like a plastic card.

The man and his accomplice carried out their activities secretly, setting up a laboratory in a house that they did not use as a permanent residence, but exclusively for work. For each counterfeit document, they received between 600 and 900 euros, depending on the type and country of origin of the document. The number of counterfeit documents produced is estimated at thousands. The accomplice is wanted.
