Marinakis: VAT on olive oil will not be reduced

In response to fake news that VAT on olive oil is expected to be reduced, government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis gave a clear answer.

He made it clear that the press reports do not correspond to reality. A government spokesman categorically stated at a briefing for political editors that “the VAT on olive oil will not be reduced.” The official noted that a series of interventions in product prices were carried outbut reports that the government wants to reduce VAT are not true.

It was previously reported that oil prices would fall this fall, and the Greeks greeted the news with awe, since olive oil is an important staple on the Greek household table. But in the last 24 months, its price has risen so much that it has literally become “unaffordable”. And as they wrote “Athens News”, in January 2024 the price reached 15 e per liter.
