The storm “hit” Thessaloniki and the surrounding area, breaking trees and flooding roads with heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The bad weather started to rage on Thursday evening, August 29. The fire brigade started receiving calls about trees falling on the roadway – especially many from the Lagadas area. Heavy rain fell in the western part of Thessaloniki and in the northwest of the prefecture.
In the city center, at the intersection of Ermou and Venizelou streets, the wind broke a large tree branch and threw it on the roof of a luxury car. A fire brigade with a chainsaw arrived at the scene and tried to remove the broken branches, the owner of the car is being sought.
Tree branches fell in Ionos Dragumi, Charilaou, Yannitzson and the wider Lagada area. The storm that hit Thessaloniki and its suburbs generated 20 calls, half of which were for tree felling, according to the fire service.
