In his evening address on August 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: “We are gradually pushing Russians out of the Kharkiv region”:
“I spoke with Commander-in-Chief Syrsky regarding the battles in the Kharkov region. We are pushing out the Russian army. Gradually. The occupier will not conquer Kharkov, nor will he conquer our entire Ukraine.”
He recalled that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had managed to repel the Russian invaders' attempt to attack Kharkov since the beginning of May. Zelensky called Kharkov “a heroic city, a city of people and life.”
It was previously reported that stabilization measures are continuing at the site of the counterattack of the Third Separate Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region:
“The third assault is advancing in the Kharkov region, we are taking back the territories! As a result of counterattacks, the brigade took control of the battalion defense area of the occupiers, enemy platoon and company strongholds and advanced almost two square kilometers deep into the front. The ratio of forces on the battlefield: 2.5 to 1 in favor of the enemy. Plus enemy support forces.”
Alexander Borodin, the brigade's press officer, reported that as a result of the operation, the positions and logistics of the 20th Army of the Russian Federation were seriously destroyed.
When asked whether the Third Assault operation is connected with the Ukrainian Armed Forces operation in Kursk regionBorodin replied, quotes “UP” that this is a “synchronous success”. The representative of the brigade also says that despite the defeat, including in personnel, the Russian army has large reserves in this direction, but they may be ineffective due to the defeat of logistics.
