Kenyan police suspected of helping escape “Kenyan vampire” — a serial killer who killed at least 42 women.
Five police officers (including one woman) are to stand trial.
“Investigations conducted so far indicate that the escape was carried out with the help of agents [внутри полицейского участка]”, ” said Police Chief Gilbert Masengeli.
The serial killer, known as “Kenyan Vampire” escaped with 12 other inmates from a police station in Nairobi on Tuesday, August 20. According to police, the inmates broke out of the station, cut the wire mesh and escaped through a hole. A manhunt is underway for the escapees.
33 years old “Kenyan vampire” was arrested last month after police found mutilated bodies at a dump in a poor area of Nairobi. Under interrogation, the man confessed to killing 42 women over the past two years.
Almost immediately, suspicions arose that police officers might be involved in the murders. Presumably, the maniac's victims were participants in anti-government demonstrations. The dump where their bodies were found is located just a hundred meters from the police station building.
Human rights activists regularly blame Kenyan police in numerous murders, especially in poor neighborhoodsx. After participating in protests against government policies, many activists disappeared and remain missing to this day. Kenyan police are also accused of abducting them.
