Earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale off the coast of Kamchatka (video)


An earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale occurred in the Pacific Ocean, off the southeastern coast of Kamchatka, the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported on its Telegram channel.

The epicenter was located 108 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The epicenter was located at a depth of 6 km under the seabed. Soon after, a second earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred, 116 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a “perceptible seismic event” occurred at 7:10 local time (22:10 Moscow time). Tremors of up to 7 points were felt in the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky urban district, Yelizovsky, Ust-Kamchatsky districts, and Vilyuchinsky urban district.

Rescuers and firefighters are inspecting buildings, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that there is no threat of a tsunami, writes “RBK”. However, in the American monitoring center US Tsunami Warning System warnedthat there is a risk of tsunami.

Governor Vladimir Solodov writes:

“According to seismologists, an active aftershock process is currently underway; according to scientists, the probability of a strong shock is low.”
