Following an order from Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, an inter-ministerial market monitoring team (DIMEA) exercises extensive control.
Checks on lamb, calf, pig and chicken carcasses began on August 7 and will continue in shops, in and around the market, mainly at meat importers and wholesalers.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Development, the purpose of such extensive control is to record any unjustified increase in the volumes of these products. It is noted that the inspections concern the implementation of the current legislation on the maximum profit rate as of December 2021.
As noted, the inflation rate for July will be announced ELSTATand the government apparatus is currently taking a wait-and-see approach. However, preliminary data released by Eurostat are already disappointing, as they show that inflation is accelerating and returning to 3%.
