Lukashenko wants to close the Ukrainian embassy in Belarus

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry summoned the Ukrainian Chargé d'Affaires Olga Timush to lodge a strong protest over the drones allegedly launched from Ukrainian territory.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry warned the Ukrainian diplomat that they could put the question of the advisability of the continued presence of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Minsk.

About this reports state agency Belta, citing the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. The publication notes that the Ukrainian diplomat “A strong protest was lodged and a corresponding note was transmitted in connection with the violation of the border of the Republic of Belarus by a group of unmanned aerial vehicles launched from the territory of Ukraine.”

The statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was preceded by statements on Saturday, August 10, by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko about Ukrainian drones allegedly recorded in the country. He said that “several targets” that had flown in from Ukraine had been shot down over the country, and there was a suspicion that these were attack drones. The President of Belarus gave instructions to strengthen troop groups in the Gomel and Mozyr tactical directions, which border the Kyiv and Chernigov regions. Following this, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry warned:

“It was especially pointed out that if the diplomatic mission of Ukraine in Belarus is unable to influence the prevention of such provocations, the Belarusian side will raise the question of the advisability of its further presence in Minsk.”
