Have a snack for… 121 euros


A snack for 121 euros and a beer for 400 euros: our prices on the islands make Dubai look cheap. That's probably why tourists have “disappeared” from some of the islands.

The Daily Mail conducted a journalistic investigation at the famous DK Oyster restaurant in Mykonos and told how things really are there. As it turned out, three crab legs cost 121 euros, and an overcooked shrimp costs 87 euros.

The report begins with a description of the journalist's experience of eating crab legs. “If you try really hard and carefully to separate the meat from the shell of all three legs, you might be able to pull the meat out and swallow it. The “piece” that “doesn't go down your throat” will cost you 121 euros!”, the reporter says. He also notes that the price includes a tip, although the amount is not specified.

Why did the paper return to a restaurant known for its outrageous prices? Well, a Canadian couple recently reported paying 400 euros for beer, Aperol and a dozen oysters. It sounds incredible, but they presented receipts as proof.

The journalist and his group, in order to avoid being noticed by the staff, secretly photographed food on mobile phones. They ordered two beers without checking the prices first. The clerk, posing as a waiter, simply asked them whether they preferred bottled or draft beer, and they chose draft. He handed them two “ridiculously large, boot-shaped glasses,” each of which contained at least a liter of beer, which soon began to heat up.

The “waiter” then brought them menus and began pressuring them to make additional orders. At first, the journalists What impressed me about the menu was that it was not something well thought out and beautifully printed, as is customary in good restaurants, but just a laminated page with the dishes available in the restaurant. They also got the impression that the menu had not been prepared by someone with a good command of English, as it included phrases such as “parardelles with salmon pie” and “goat's cheese bread.”

The next surprise was that the boiled vegetables cost almost 20 euros. The country salad cost 28.50 euros, and the Caesar reached an incredible 34.80 euros. To enjoy the giant prawns, you need to know that each one costs 87.50 euros. How much are the lamb chops? According to the newspaper, in a typical Greek taverna in London, spare ribs cost about 15 pounds. However, at DK Oyster, a kilo of spare ribs costs 285 euros!

If you decide to order a ribeye steak, its price will reach 850 euros per kilogram. To compare with the situation in his country, a Daily Mail journalist explains that in an excellent London restaurant, a ribeye steak costs 130 euros per kilogram. That is, in DK Oyster it is sold 6 times more expensive.

If you decide to add gold leaf and some black beluga caviar to the dishthe price will rise to 1,850 euros per kilogram. This is equivalent to the cost of a week's holiday on another island, including airfare.

Lobster costs $295 per kilogram, while king crab legs cost a whopping $385 per kilogram.

This is how they deceive society: the menu has a note in very small letters – all prices are indicated for 100 grams, but the minimum consumption is 480 grams per dish. So, with this approach, a portion of ribeye steak will cost the DK Oyster buyer at least 408 euros. In addition, the prices for the crab legs and shrimp they ordered did not justify themselves.
