15 Russian athletes finished the Paris Olympics with one silver medal


All Russian athletes admitted to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris completed their performances on Friday, August 9.

The only silver medal was won tennis players Mirra Andreeva and Diana Schneider in women's doubles. In the final, the Russians lost to the Italian pair Sara Erani and Jasmine Paolini. Despite a decent victory in the first set (6:2), Andreeva and Schneider lost the next set (1:6) and lost in the final (7:10). It is worth noting that 17-year-old Andreeva became the youngest Olympic tennis medalist since 1992.

Chances for a gold medal in trampoline jumping at Angela Bladtseva were high – before the Olympics she won gold at the World Cup stage in Arosa, Switzerland. But in Paris Bladtseva only got fifth place.

Zakhar Petrov and Alexey Korovashkov in canoeing competitions reached the final. However, in the decisive swim of the doubles at a distance of 500 m they finished only fourth. Competing in the final of the singles, Petrov held on to second place for some time during the swim of 1000 m, but crossed the finish line in fourth place.

Evgeniy Somov was the only Russian to take part in the competition in swimmingbut did not reach the final.

In cycling Three Russian athletes performed:

  • in the women's time trial Tamara Dronova took 21st place,
  • in men's Gleb Syritsa was even less fortunate and took 31st place,
  • In the women's group race, Dronova finished 47th, and Alena Ivanchenko – 72nd,
  • In the men's race, Syritsa did not reach the finish line.

Let us remind you, Officially, Russian athletes competed at the 2024 Olympics as “individual neutral athletes.” Any Russian symbols were prohibited at the competitions. The Olympic teams of Russia and Belarus were not allowed to participate in the Olympics in Paris due to Russia's war against Ukraine.

The International Olympic Committee has allocated 54 quotas for athletes from the Russian Federation to participate in the Olympics in a neutral status. In such sports as cycling, wrestling, judo and tennis Many Russian athletes have declined IOC invitations.

Ceremony closing of the Olympic Games in Paris will take place from 21:00 to 23:15 local time on Sunday, August 11.
