Submarine B-237 Rostov-on-Don (NATO classification – Kilo class) was destroyed in Crimea.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Saturday, August 3, official page V Facebook. The B-237 Rostov-on-Don submarine is one of four Kilo-class submarines that can fire Kalibr missiles. The Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the submarine and the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system. The General Staff said in a statement:

“According to confirmed information, yesterday, missile troops units, in cooperation with units of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, significantly damaged 4 launchers of the Triumf SAM system. Also, in the port of Sevastopol, the submarine of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation Rostov-on-Don was successfully hit. It sank on the spot.”

The report also notes:

“Rostov-on-Don was commissioned on December 26, 2014. On September 13, 2023, as a result of a Ukrainian missile attack, the vessel was significantly damaged. Subsequently, it was repaired and tested in the waters of the Sevastopol harbor. The cost of the submarine is estimated at 300 million dollars. The destruction of Rostov-on-Don once again proves that there is no safe place for the Russian fleet in the Ukrainian territorial waters of the Black Sea.”
