There is only enough water on Serifos for fifteen days

Serifos' water shortage has reached unprecedented levels, with local authorities saying there is only enough water for two weeks, with August still to come.

Serifos Mayor Kostas Revintes spoke about the issue to SKAI. He said: “The water level in the dam is at its lowest in 20 years. The dam has not been filled since 2019, so the water level has been consistently low for many years.”

The bell on Serifos has rung finally for water supplies. The island is supplied with water from a reservoir, springs, and wells. In particular, the maximum capacity of the reservoir is 720,000 cubic meters of water, and at the moment only 10,000 cubic meters left.

One winemaker said Serifos was experiencing an unprecedented event: “We are facing the worst harvest in history in terms of production. This will be a frighteningly low yield. In many cases, plants are unable to respond due to a severe lack of moisture.”
