It will become more difficult for 70-year-olds to drive: new recommendations from the European Commission

Drivers over 70 will have to undergo more extensive and stringent medical checks in order to continue driving.

Changes are being made to driver's license renewals for drivers 70 years of age and older. In particular, the European Commission is promoting a directive that will require drivers over this age to undergo strict medical checks. In addition, they will presumably have to take the driving practice test again.

Regarding the practical exam, many member states have tried to adopt it in the past, including Greece, but unfortunately, for many and varied reasons, it has never materialized.

Today in EU There is no age limit for obtaining a driver's license, and the law stipulates that upon reaching the age of 65, drivers must be examined by 2 doctors every three years, and after reaching the age of 80 – every 2 years.
