Finland does not plan to open the border with the Russian Federation (video)

On February 11, the border between the Russian Federation and Finland, previously closed until this date, should be opened. However, due to the ongoing influx of migrants, Finland decided not to open it.

How writes Deutsche Welle, the head of the Finnish government, Petteri Orpo, on February 3, said on Yle TV channel that the situation on the eastern border remains extremely serious and alarming. Behind it are thousands of people who want to enter Finland illegally. He called for preparations for attempts to illegally cross the border, which will remain closed.

Let us recall that in November last year, Finland completely closed its land border with the Russian Federation, accusing Moscow of provoking citizens of third countries to cross the border. In mid-December, two checkpoints resumed operation, but only worked for a few hours and were closed again. In January 2024, authorities in Helsinki decided to extend the closure of the eastern border until February 11.

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called “Finland’s attempts to shift responsibility onto Russia” for the situation at the border as clumsy excuses that are fueling Russophobic sentiments. According to Zakharova, the Finnish side did not consult with the Russian side on the issue of closing the border.
