While the Greek government is thinking about how to protect the olive harvest, including by legalizing the “chipping” of olives, the dodgers are not asleep.
And due to the fact that there is still no special protection on olive tree plantations, they are making their own efforts to steal very expensive agricultural products.
As is well known, olive oil has become too expensive for consumers this year. At the same time, producers are in despair due to both a reduction in production and the phenomenon of crop theft.
Today, around midnight, brazen thieves spread agrofibre under the olive trees in order to shake ripe olives from tree branches and thus “harvest” from someone else’s territory. The incident occurred in a village in the municipality of Chalkida in Evia.
However, it seems that someone saw them and notified the deputy mayor of the area, who soon rushed to the scene and recorded on video everything that he managed to see in the pitch darkness.
In particular, at about 00:00, the deputy mayor of the municipality of Antidonas, Kostas Karvounis, was notified that unknown persons steal olives from an unfenced plantation located in the Caracas area, behind the station DEI.

The deputy mayor went to the scene, simultaneously notifying the police, but the attackers managed to escape.
To quickly collect the olives, thieves covered the ground with tarps and made improvised “sleighs” so that they could easily drag the heavy load, thereby causing the agrofibre to slide freely along the ground. However, they realized in time that they had been noticed and “evaporated”, abandoning what they had started.
