Desperate consumers who buy essential goods.
Inflation has changed many of the habits of the Greeks, who now buy only the bare necessities, as their pocket “can’t stand any extra spending.” And apparently the “family basket” did little to help.
According to ΕΚΠΟΙΖΩ, 72% of consumers have reduced spending on essential goods. The prices for dairy products (25.6%), bread (18.1%), meat (17.8%) and vegetables (13.1%) increased the most. In the bakeries “neighborhood” attendance has decreased by 30%, consumers are buying a loaf cut in half, and many are even asking for bread … on credit.
And all this is happening at a time when winter has come with constant bad weather and it seems that fuel oil is becoming more expensive. The average price of gasoline today is close to 1.90 euros, and gas station owners say many drivers have restricted their trips.
