At its highest peak is the wave of citizens departing on vacation. The islands and popular destinations of mainland Greece are flooded with local tourists who come here for a couple of days.
Images from the three major ports of Attica – Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio – confirm the mass departure of the Athenians from the “stuffy metropolis”. Ferries to the Cyclades, Dodecanese and Crete depart in the last 24 hours with occupancy close to 100%.
A similar picture at the airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”: the lack of tickets for domestic flights to the Ionian and Aegean Islands clearly demonstrate the great interest shown in the destinations.
As for KTEL trains and buses, they depart from the stations of Larissa, Kifissos and Lyosion with 90% occupancy, while it is assumed that the peak of traffic will be today, Saturday, July 30, and tomorrow, Sunday, writes newsbomb.gr.
An increase in traffic is also seen on national highways. On Friday afternoon, “traffic jams” formed at the toll road points of Athens-Korinth, as well as Afidnes and some others.
However, according to highway operators and transport services located throughout the national road network, the reality is that “the problems are minor” and can be easily dealt with.
