Patras: scammers took jewelry from an elderly woman under the pretext that it was… radioactive

An elderly woman in Patras became a victim of fraudulent thieves who defrauded her of jewelry under the pretext of… the radioactivity of the jewelry.

It all started when the woman received a call from a man who introduced himself as an accountant and explained to her that she was entitled to benefits. He first gained access to her bank account codes and withdrew €280 from it.

The fake accountant then talked to the elderly woman and, under the pretext that the jewelry in her house was radioactive, convinced her to give it to two accomplices who arrived at the house.

The cost of the jewelry is 10,000 euros. Police are investigating to identify three scammers.
