Ancient Healing Practices at the Acropolis Museum

The Acropolis Museum participates in the 2024 European Heritage Days with a thematic presentation “Health: The Search for the Universal and Eternal Good.”

This is a journey into the world of health and hygiene in antiquity, revealed through relevant objects in the ancient area located beneath the Acropolis Museum, as well as many objects exhibited in the recently created excavation museum.

Under the guidance of archaeologists from the Department of Educational Programs, visitors will trace how the ancients treated health and hygiene, what methods and means they used to care for their body and soul, what scientific knowledge and religious aspects they used to ensure the most valuable benefit for themselves.

The programme is in line with this year's pan-European theme “Tracing routes, networks and connections in cultural heritage” is part of the general spirit of the Council of Europe “Europe – a common heritage”.
