Siemens will not supply equipment to Turkey for Russian nuclear power plant

The German company Siemens explained why it refused to supply equipment for the Russian nuclear power plant to Turkey: it complies with the export control law.

The Akkuyu NPP is being built by the Russian state-owned company Rosatom, writes Bloomberg, which, after a delay of several months, had to turn to China for help after Siemens refused. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan even approached German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, but the issue of Siemens supplying a gas-insulated substation for transmitting the generated electricity to the grid was never resolved. Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar commented:

“Germany's failure to provide a satisfactory explanation for the delay has affected the progress of the project. However, Rosatom has already placed an alternative order in China.”

China's National Energy Administration and Rosatom declined to comment, while a Siemens Energy spokesman told Bloomberg that the company was simply complying with export control laws.
