Two Cretans jailed for brutal beating of Greek-Canadian (video)

Two Cretans, from Gazi and Zoniana, have been sentenced to temporary detention with the consent of the prosecutor. They are accused of beating up 49-year-old Greek-Canadian Manolis Kakoulakis.

The incident happened as told our edition, July 16, 2024 near the bar. How notes CNN Greece, the trial was a long one, starting shortly before 10:00 a.m. and ending around 3:00 p.m.

The explanations given by the young men did not seem convincing, and the fact that they had been hiding from law enforcement for a long time was an aggravating factor. The men surrendered about a month and a half after the incident, and arrest warrants had already been issued for attempted murder.

From early Saturday morning, people from the defendants' entourage, relatives and friends, were in the Heraklion courthouse, waiting for the outcome of the case. And as they were walking into the building, some of those present encouraged them with shouts.
