"Death number" pedestrian on Iera Odos (video)

Pedestrians on a busy road caught their breath during rush hour: a young man, possibly under the influence of drugs, threw himself under a passing car.

Only the driver's quick reaction “saved the situation” and prevented a tragedy from happening. As can be seen in the footage of the video, published on TikTok and which has collected dozens of comments about the pedestrian's behavior, the vehicle, normally moving along the roadway, brakes sharply when the young man, possibly under the influence of drugs, jumps out of the pedestrian island onto the roadway and does “dance steps.”

The driver of a car equipped with a recording camera coolly avoids a collision. Let us recall that all this happens during rush hour on Iera Odos (Athens).

What is the responsibility of a pedestrian when crossing the road?

• If there are pedestrian crossings on the road, use them.
• If there is a pedestrian traffic light at a pedestrian crossing, obey its signals.
• If there is no traffic light at the crossing, but traffic is regulated by traffic police inspectors, pay attention to the signals they give, do not go out onto the roadway until you receive the sign “crossing permitted”.
• At crossings where the movement of pedestrians and vehicles is not regulated by traffic lights, take into account the distance to the moving vehicle and do not run across the road.
• Cross the road perpendicularly, at a fast pace, without stopping unnecessarily on the roadway.

Pedestrians must, before crossing the road (even if there is a zebra crossing in front of you):

• stop and look around
• wait for the green light
• make sure there are no approaching vehicles
• make sure that drivers see you and let you pass.

The driver, in turn, must slow down and let the pedestrian pass. Especially if children, elderly people, or a mother with a stroller are walking on the roadway. In this case, it is useful for all drivers to give them priority. This is a matter of education and respect.
