Thessaloniki police have arrested a 60-year-old priest for domestic violence and threats against his 48-year-old wife.
The priest was arrested after his wife filed a police complaint alleging that her husband had threatened her during an argument at home the night before. The reason was that the woman had been cooking late at night and had made a noise. According to her, “The husband threw the minced meat she had prepared from the balcony and demanded that she stop cooking, raising his fist above her head.”
She also said that in the last two years, after she started working, the couple had often argued. The woman accused the priest of psychological abuse and insults. She filed a complaint in the summer of 2023, when her husband allegedly threatened “cut her and hang her.”
According to media reports, the police provided the woman with a panic button. Following a domestic violence incident on Monday, the victim told police she did not want to prosecute her husband but asked for a restraining order to force him to leave their home. The couple's two teenage children reportedly support their father, accusing their mother of making all her allegations “are in her head.”
