After visiting Kursk NPP, IAEA chief warns of risk of nuclear incident (video)


IAEA chief Rafael Grossi, after visiting the Kursk nuclear power plant, said that the fighting near it was causing concern and that there was a “danger of a nuclear incident.”

About this reports Reuters, quoting Grossi's statement at a press conference following his visit to the nuclear power plant:

“The peculiarity of the Kursk NPP is that it operates RBMK type reactors. By their design, they do not have a protective shell, a container, which many reactors of other types in the world are equipped with.”

Grossi said that he allegedly saw traces on the territory of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant attacks drones, and the reactor core is located in a practically ordinary building and is very vulnerable to artillery or drone strikes.

According to the head of the IAEA, following his visit, a regulation on the protection of the Kursk NPP will be formulated, the media writes. At the same time, Reuters reports that the head of the UN nuclear agency said on Tuesday that there is a risk of a nuclear accident and the situation is serious.

Let us recall: the IAEA mission, headed by the agency's Director General Grossi, visited the Kursk NPP on Tuesday, August 27. Grossi had previously stated that he intended to visit the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant in Russia.
