High prices: which products does INKA expect to increase in price from September

Consumers should expect sharp price increases from September. The market has already announced a rise in coffee prices, while rising cocoa prices are affecting the cost of a number of products in the food industry. At the same time, cheese, milk, orange juice, tea and butter have doubled in price compared to last year.

“From September we will see price increases in the range of 15 to 20%. This is especially true for catering establishments that serve coffee, whose representatives say they cannot absorb such a rise in the price of raw materials. It will exceed 4 euros,” says the representative of the new INKA, Panagiotis Georgiadis, about coffee, speaking recently at MEGA.

Other items that have seen price increases include fish and soft drinks.

“According to data published ELSTATfor July 2024, inflation was recorded at 2.7% from 2.3% in June and 2.4% food inflation from 2.1%,” – he says. “And with the fires, drought and water shortages, combined with the impact of tourism growth on inflation, we will see even worse numbers in August. (…) We have growth. In July we raised the price of olive oil,” Georgiadis added.

Other products that have seen growth include fish, soft drinks and coffee.Only if consumers coordinate their actions, only if they become conscious consumers, will they be able to exert pressure,” he added. According to Georgiadis, complaints received by the organization concern speculative price increases, as well as “Too many complaints this year about the price of beach chairs.”

“Operators have the opportunity to legislatively establish a minimum consumption limit. In addition, if cases of speculative price increases are detected, consumers can contact the ministry,” he concluded.
