At the Highfield festival near Leipzig, a Ferris wheel caught fire on August 17, injuring at least thirty people.
According to information editions dw, the Highfield festival took place on Lake Störmtal. As local police spokeswoman Josefine Zader told the German tabloid BILD, four police officers were among the injured. Citing the head of the operations department of the German Red Cross, the publication noted that most of the injuries were not serious, only two people were more seriously injured and hospitalized.
According to eyewitnesses, firefighters arrived at the scene promptly. fires and quickly put it out. The cause of the incident has not yet been established. Der Spiegel writes, citing a statement from the regional police:
“Two cabins of the Ferris wheel caught fire at about nine o'clock in the evening. They were engulfed in flames.”
The Highfield Music Festival has been held on Lake Störmtal near Leipzig since 2009. Around 30,000 people are expected to visit it in 2024.
