In Messinia, a neighbor's Rottweiler “came to visit” a family relaxing on the veranda with a one-year-old child, coming out of an open garage.
To its misfortune, the owners' Maltese lapdog barked at the intruder, and Rottweiler attacked on her. The father of the family says:
“I was on the porch of my house with my one-year-old daughter, who was on a swing at the time, when a Rottweiler came in. I saw him coming up the stairs and approached me in an aggressive manner.”
The man grabbed his daughter and disappeared into the house. At the other end of the veranda was the owners' dog, a Maltese lapdog, who barked at the Rottweiler, and it attacked her. Hearing the shrill squeal of their pet, women ran out of the house – the owner's wife and her mother. They tried to save their pet from the Rottweiler's teeth, but they failed, and the neighbor's dog turned its attention to them. The owner of the house says:
“My wife and mother-in-law went out to try to get the Maltese out of the Rottweiler's mouth, which was impossible. They finally took the lifeless body of the lapdog and went into my mother-in-law's house next door. The Rottweiler followed my wife and she locked herself in the bathroom to keep it from attacking her.”
Eventually, the neighbor, the owner of the Rottweiler, came running to the sound of the frightened women. He put the dog on a leash and apologized for leaving the garage door open.
The incident occurred yesterday, August 15. The family filed a lawsuit with the local police department and asked for an order to seize the dog, but they were told that this was impossible and the only thing that could be done was to give the owner advice on how to care for the animal.
