It turns out that feta is not only a favorite product of the Greeks. It has even become a favorite of the Chinese, who are known for their particular wariness of traditional products from other countries.
Greek cheese exports to China have been growing steadily in recent years, as many bakery chains have increased their use of feta in baked goods. And more and more families have begun to use this special cheese in cooking at home, as well as to accompany wine consumption along with other cheeses. Of course, Chinese travel to Greece plays an important role, as they have the opportunity to taste Greek cheeses.
According to the Economic and Commercial Affairs Department of the Consulate General of Greece in Shanghai, the value of cheese exports, which amounted to 584.44 million euros in 2019, reached 1.19 billion euros in 2023, with a volume of 368.48 million kilograms in 2023. It should be noted that feta exports to China, in particular, reached 51 million kilograms in 2023, with an export value of 38 million euros.
