Tourism: Greece tops Albanian tourists' preferences

Perhaps until 1990, the expression “Albanian tourist” was an oxymoron, denoting something non-existent, utopian. And only much later, in 2024, tourist trips to Greece from the neighboring country rose to the highest historical level.

According to a survey conducted by the media outlet Monitor between June and July this year, out of 659 people surveyed, 336 confirmed that they would spend their holidays in Albania. However, it is noted that exorbitant prices at popular resorts such as Examili and Saint Saranda have prompted Kosovo citizens and young travelers to look for holiday destinations in other countries.

In particular, Greece is in first place in preference with 23%, followed by Italy and Turkey with 5% respectively, where all-inclusive tourist packages have provided a stable clientele. It is a fact that Greece has also adopted similar packages in some regions, such as Corfu and Chalkidiki, but the preference of Albanian tourists there remains consistently high, mainly due to the geographical proximity, which makes it accessible for individual visits.

According to the same survey, bookings to Greece and Turkey were at record highs this year, despite package prices rising by 10-15% compared to last year, as higher prices and reduced availability in southern Albania led many tourists to opt for popular destinations in the two aforementioned countries, which offer more economical packages and better quality services.
