The 42-year-old man was arrested after his fifth robbery of a store in the center of Thessaloniki and was found to have a “weakness” for convenience stores.
A case of systematic robberies and violation of the Law on Weapons has been opened against the citizen. In particular, the man yesterday morning, 12/08, entered a shop-cafe and, threatening with a gun, took 714 euros and packs of cigarettes from the cash register.
However, immediate mobilization and intensive searches carried out by police officers of the Crime Prevention and Suppression Department of the Security Directorate of Thessaloniki led to his discovery and arrest.
However, further investigation revealed that he was involved in four more robberies. According to police, the man committed two armed robberies in shops in the Toumba area, from where he stole a total of 2,540 euros. In addition, on August 6 this year, together with his 41-year-old local accomplice (later arrested in connection with the carjacking), he carried out two robberies in the same manner in shops and coffee shops in Ampelokipoi and the city centre.
The detainee was brought before the competent judicial authorities.
