Every year, a small but unique and unrepeatable beach at an altitude of 1000 meters in the mountainous area of the municipality of Meteora becomes more and more famous.
This beach, known as “Alekos”, is located just before the village of Agia Paraskevi (Tsourtsia) in the municipality of Meteora, in the center of Aspropotamos. The waters of Aspropotamos flow to form a perfect natural lake, surrounded by the alpine scenery of the green mountains of Pindos.
On its shores, many travelers will find a “breath of coolness”, especially on hot summer days. This year, after the major disasters caused by the floods last September, the Municipality of Meteora, through its targeted actions, created conditions for vacationers, visitors to the village of Aspropotamos. Tourists can enjoy swimming on a separate natural “beach”.
The Mayor of Meteora, Lefteris Avramopoulos, stressed the following: “This August, the “diamond” of our municipality, the charming Aspropotamos, is ready to welcome thousands of visitors. The villages are already bustling with life. Almost a year has passed since the devastating floods of September, which greatly affected the Aspropotamos area, changing the geological landscape of many of its parts. The municipal authorities have been working all these months to restore the main damage to the water supply networks, as well as the roads inside the villages. In cooperation with the Region of Thessaly, we have worked to provide access to the sites and thus facilitate the stay of visitors, so that they can enjoy the unique beauty of the landscape this summer.”
