Kalavryta: Water shortage creates serious problems in the region

In some regions of the country, water shortages are already creating problems for the population. For example, in Kalavrita, where there has been very little snow and rain this year, residents are facing difficulties.

A typical example is the village of Gerbezi, located at an altitude of 1,050 meters above sea level, where water is running out due to its shortage and residents fill their canteens from a single source. “We don't have water here. There is no water to wash or to bathe,” says one of the residents, speaking about the difficult situation.

“Drinking water comes from one tap, and there is relatively little of it. The only well in the village does not provide water, so we are faced with a serious problem”– noted another resident. “There was neither rain nor snow. Water is brought in by tankers and water trucks, but it is not enough even for bathing,” other residents note.

“We don't waste water at home. We don't wash anything, we don't water it, we only use it to take a bath and wash clothes,” adds another resident.
