On the evening of August 1, a fire raged in Marina Zeas in Piraeus – one of the boats caught fire, later, after explosions, the fire spread to a second vessel, and then to a third.
Port services announced alarm. 26 firefighters with 10 vehicles, three coast guard boats and one firefighter arrived at the scene. The coast guard evacuated ten people who were walking on the pier. The blaze was contained shortly before 1 a.m., thanks to the powerful fire brigade.
Firefighters prevented the worst from happening, and private divers dove into the water to check for pollution. One of the three boats turned out to be a professional tourist boat, and there were no people inside any of the three vessels.
