Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich, jailed in Russia, could return to the US today as part of a prisoner swap

Fox News reports that Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Hershkovich may return to the United States on August 1.

He has been convicted in Russia of espionage and could return to his homeland as part of a prisoner swap on August 1, reported news anchor on the channel at midnight on July 31 local time:

“The Wall Street Journal reports that its reporter will return to the United States tomorrow as part of a prisoner swap.”

The information was received from the channel's journalist Jennifer Griffin, who works as the chief national security correspondent at the Pentagon. The host did not provide any other details.

Meduza edition writes:

“In recent days, about ten political prisoners have been taken from Russian penal colonies to an unknown location. Among them are former coordinators of Navalny's headquarters Liliya Chanysheva and Ksenia Fadeeva, co-chairman of Memorial Oleg Orlov, politicians Ilya Yashin and Vladimir Kara-Murza, former US Marine Paul Whelan and others. Lawyers do not know where their clients are. Human rights activists have suggested that the removal of such a large number of political prisoners may be preparation for their group exchange. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov refused comment on the topic of a possible prisoner exchange.
