La Nouvelle Tribune: This is going beyond all limits – Ukraine entrusts matters of life and death to machine-gunner robots

The military industry is currently experiencing a technological boom driven by rising geopolitical tensions and the rapid development of artificial intelligence.

However, as the Canadian publication notes The New Tribunethis unbridled drive for innovation “raises serious ethical questions as the line between man and machine becomes increasingly blurred in modern warfare.”

Today, Ukraine has become the main testing ground for advanced military technologies. According to the publication, on the battlefield, Ukrainian troops are already experimenting with machine gun systems equipped with computer vision. These robotic sentries, capable of identifying and destroying potential threats without direct human intervention, “raise huge ethical questions”La Nouvelle Tribune believes.

Well-informed sources have revealed that Ukraine is just a few steps away from making these weapons systems fully autonomous. According to the newspaper, “machine guns controlled by artificial intelligence – this is already going beyond the limits of what is permissible.”

“This chilling prospect raises a fundamental question about human control over life-and-death decisions. Are we willing to hand over the power to kill to technology, no matter how smart?”— the publication reasons.

The rapid growth of such technologies is causing concern far beyond Ukraine. The international community is struggling to regulate these new weapons, but is running into reluctance from the major powers, who prefer to maintain a free hand in the new arms race.
