Flooding in North Korea: Kim Jong-un personally leads the operation

Heavy rains have flooded northern regions of North Korea, with North Korean propaganda claiming that Kim Jong-un is leading the rescue operation.

He arrived in the flooded North Pyongan region of the DPRK, which is on the border with China. There, according to state-run North Korean media, about 5,000 people were rescued under the leadership of Kim Jong-un.

The North Korean leader is said to have personally concluded that “the level of danger in the region has been significantly exceeded,” and the situation in the border town of Sinuiju is very serious.

Kim Jong-un was seen visiting an air force base and driving through flood waters in an SUV, according to the released images. Official reports said he was “supervising rescue efforts.”

Over the past few days, heavy rains have been falling in parts of Asia, particularly in Taiwan and the Philippines, following Typhoon Gayemi. There was no initial report of a critical situation in North Korea.

Last Friday, July 26, Kim Jong-un celebrated the 71st anniversary of the end of the Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953. The DPRK authorities believe that North Korea won the war.
