Thessaloniki: Nursing home robbery solved


The criminals, hiding their facial features and holding in their hands Kalashnikov assault riflesamea razor blade and a sledgehammer, entered the nursing homewhere they beat up the owner and an employee and took away valuables.

The robbery with a Kalashnikov assault rifle that took place in April 2020 at a nursing home in eastern Thessaloniki has been solved. In particular, the two robbers, aged 35 and 31 (as of today), have been identified and a criminal case has been opened against them, while the police investigation is ongoing to identify their accomplices. The case will be referred to the competent prosecutor.

The robbers made off with a suitcase they had taken from the owner's room, which contained a metal detector, two watches and jewellery. During their escape, they used a car where an accomplice with an automatic weapon was waiting for them. A detailed police statement reads:

“Police officers from the Property Crimes Unit of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate, as part of an ongoing investigation, have uncovered an armed robbery that took place in the spring of 2020 at a business located in the eastern part of Thessaloniki.The identities of two criminals involved in this case have been established. They turned out to be city residents aged 35 and 31, against whom a case was opened for robbery and violation of the weapons law.

According to the case, the above-mentioned men, together with accomplices whose details have not yet been established, illegally entered the premises of the said enterprise, concealing their facial features and, threatening with a military rifle, an iron bar and a sledgehammer, as well as using physical violence, immobilized an employee and one of the owners, and took a suitcase containing a metal detector, two watches and jewelry.

They fled in a car, where an accomplice with an automatic weapon was waiting for them. The case materials will be transferred to the competent prosecutor.”
