With a trembling voice, the 25-year-old girl, who escaped from the maniac who attacked her in Omonia Square, spoke about the dramatic moments she experienced.
A young woman went with friends to see a theatre performance in the centre of Athens. Returning to her home on Menandrou Street (near Omonia), she realised that she was being followed by a foreigner. Trying to avoid the worst, she crossed to the opposite side of the road, but he followed her again.
«We moved parallel for about two or three minutes. I quickened my pace because I felt him approaching me threateningly. Eventually, he suddenly approached me, grabbed me, covered my mouth with one hand, and grabbed my waist with the other. I was physically overwhelmed and had no strength to react, as if I was dumbfounded.“,” the victim told the STAR channel.
«I instinctively pushed him away to see if he had a knife in his hands, because I thought he wanted to kill me. He pressed me to himself again and started shouting in my ear “sex, sex, sex”. I screamed, started calling for help. And at that moment he tried to drag me into a dark alley. For the first time I felt like I was having a panic attack.“, the girl added.
The whole scene lasted about 4 minutes. Luckily for her, a man with his company was passing by and rescued her from the criminal, who, realizing the inequality of forces, ran away. The victim of the attack gave the police a full description of the criminal. He is a foreigner, of medium height, speaks almost no Greek, and his characteristic feature is a small beard.
The police have begun searching for the criminal with the aim of arresting him. It should be noted that, according to preliminary information, the man has already attempted to rape girls three times.
