Mandatory sign in taxis and street markets for card payments

The Ministry of National Economy and Finance is “slowing down” the justifications of professionals for refusing to accept card payments by requiring them to place a special sign (plate) with which they will inform their clients that they use POS for card payments.

In particular Taxis, street markets and other businesses must display a prominent sign informing their customers in Greek and English about the possibility of accepting POS payments.. The sign will also say a telephone number is provided for relevant complaints.

Those who do not comply with the requirements will be punished. a fine of 1000 euros was imposed by the AADE or the General Secretariat of Consumers. The measure, which is envisaged by an amendment submitted to Parliament by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, concerns certain types of activities in which large-scale tax evasion is observed.
