Corinthia: Fire in Stimanga area out of control


A fire that broke out at midday on Thursday (11/7) in a forest area in Stimang, Corinthia, has gotten out of control.

By initial information, the fire came close to houses, but the village is not in any danger yet.

The flames are currently just a few steps away from the village of Koutsi in the municipality of Nemea. Nemea Mayor Kostas Frousios and four deputy mayors, Mr. Mouchouras, Mr. Skazas, Mr. Rogakis and Mr. Giannakopoulos, are at the scene.

The firefighting effort involves 159 firefighters with 6 forestry teams and 49 vehicles, as well as 19 aircraft, 11 planes and 8 helicopters, including 2 for coordination. Water trucks and earthmoving equipment from the municipality, region and army are providing assistance.

In connection with this fire, the Minister of Climate Crises and Civil Defence, Vassilis Kikilias, convened a coordination meeting with the participation of relevant ministries and departments, local authorities and all security agencies.

Velos Vocha Mayor Thanasis Manavis and Deputy Mayor for Civil Protection Evangelos Liberopoulos are at the scene, with Mr Manavis noting the serious water shortage problem the area is facing.
