Antetokounmpo and Drismioti to be Greece's Olympic flag bearers

Greek basketball player Giannis Antetokounmpo and race walker Antigoni Drismioti have been chosen as Greece's flag bearers at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The choice was made by the Greek Olympic Committee. The decision on Antetokounmpo's candidacy was unanimous, and the race walking champion was chosen by vote. Among the other candidates, as reported, were tennis player Maria Sakkari, swimmer Evangelia Plataniotis and water polo player Margarita Pleuritou.

Before the decision-making meeting, the Hellenic Olympic Committee contacted the Olympic medalists, but Miltos Tedoglou and Katerina Stefanidis asked not to be appointed as flag bearers so as not to change their training schedule.

It should be noted that Maria Sakkari's name was leaked to the press and caused a lot of negative reactions, especially on social networks, since she is the partner of the Prime Minister's son. Many suggested Drismipioti instead.
