Russia has deployed a Yars self-propelled ICBM to a point with a flight time of up to 3-5 minutes to the capitals of European NATO countries

The exercises, using Yars mobile ground-launched missile systems (PGRK), were announced on July 5 by the Russian Defense Ministry, less than a month after it held tactical nuclear weapons development exercises with its ally Belarus.

This means that nuclear weapons have been deployed near the border with Belarus that can destroy all European NATO capitals within 3-5 minutes maximum. That is, Madrid in 5 minutes, Paris in 4 minutes, Berlin in 3 minutes and London in 5 minutes. The ministry said that the RS-24 Yars self-propelled missiles in at least two different regions must be moved to a distance of 100 kilometers and begin to deploy and camouflage the systems using camouflage devices.

The Russian Defense Ministry has released a video showing the self-propelled gun maneuvering along forest roads and taking up a position before soldiers cover it with a camouflage net. “IN In the near future, similar exercises will be conducted by other missile units,” the defense department stated.

In June, Moscow conducted exercises with Belarus using tactical nuclear weapons. Russian President Vladimir Putin later said that Moscow does not need to use nuclear weapons to ensure victory in Ukraine, but added that it does not rule out changes to the country's nuclear doctrine.

RS-24 Yars is the newest Russian nuclear weapon. These are intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) equipped with multiple nuclear warheads (MIRVs) capable of hitting multiple targets simultaneously.

These missiles have a range of over 11,000 kilometers and are capable of penetrating even the most modern missile defense systems. These systems are designed for mobile launch, allowing for greater flexibility and making them more difficult for the enemy to detect.

RS-24 Yars missile – technical characteristics and range of destruction:

  • RS-24 is designed to destroy strategic targets at a range of up to 11 thousand km.
  • The missile is equipped with a separable warhead with maneuvering units for individual guidance.
  • The rocket's flight is provided by several stages of solid-fuel engines.

There is no more precise data about the missile, but in 2021 the characteristics of the modernized Yars-S missile system were made public:

  • The Yars-S is equipped with solid-fuel ballistic missiles with a caliber of 1.86 m and a length of 17.8 m.
  • Launch weight: 46 t.
  • Payload weight: 1.25 t.
  • The complex can hit targets at a range of 10 thousand km (according to the Russian Federation).
  • Yars-S can carry three to four warheads with a capacity of 300-500 kilotons or six warheads with a capacity of 150 kilotons each.

It is not known for certain how many ballistic missiles the Russian Federation has today, but as of the beginning of 2014, the Strategic Missile Forces were armed with 33 mobile RS-24 missiles with four warheads each.
