A picture is worth a thousand words: exhausted firefighters sleep right on the road

A photograph of the fire in Keratea published online today shows exhausted firefighters lying on the ground, which is still “smoking” nearby.

Epic photos were taken early Monday morning as the Keratea fire was largely brought under control after a “night battle” by ground firefighters. Exhausted firefighters lay down on the ground near fire trucks to recover from the night of terror.

The photo shows that they are lying on the ground, fully equipped, and are fully prepared, and some are wrapped in special thermal blankets. It is characteristic that the burnt earth is still “smoking” next to the firefighters.

The photograph by Fanis Boukis was initially published as being from Kos, but was eventually confirmed to have been taken in Keratea, early on Monday, July 1.
