A grenade instead of… a hammer or "Fortune's smile"

For at least twenty (!) years, 90-year-old Chinese woman Qin from Hubei Province used a combat grenade as a hammer, unaware of the mortal danger that threatened her.

Many years ago, a woman found a “metal lump” on a farm and took it home, writes South China Morning Post. For years, a woman used a grenade as a hammer: cracking nuts, pounding spices, hammering nails (video).

On June 23, construction workers came to her old house to demolish it. Noticing an unusual object, they recognized it as a grenade and reported the find to the police. Sappers confiscated the ammunition. Its wooden handle had become completely smooth over the years of use, and numerous traces of nails were imprinted on the metal top. The fuse was intact and clearly visible. The grenade was destroyed by specialists.

*Fortuna is the ancient Roman goddess of luck and the unpredictability of fate. She was identified with the ancient Greek Tyche, who is the deity of chance, the goddess of luck and fate. In translation from Latin, Fortuna means fate.
