Train Collides With Bus In Slovakia, Breaks Bus In Half (Video)

A fatal collision between a commuter bus and a passenger train has occurred in Slovakia, killing at least seven people.

An international Eurocity train traveling on the Prague-Budapest route rammed a commuter bus at a crossing. All the victims were passengers on the bus, which was torn into two parts. More than a hundred people were traveling on the train. As a result of the collision, the bus and locomotive caught fire. The train driver suffered minor burns.

The victims had to be taken to hospitals in neighboring cities, as the clinic closest to the scene of the tragedy was flooded due to heavy rains. The head of the National Police of Slovakia, Lubomir Solak, said:

“Firefighters and rescuers from Nove Zamky were the first to arrive at the scene, then from Šuran, Nitra. 30 employees and 9-10 pieces of equipment worked on site. First of all, rescue operations were carried out and first aid was provided. Then, only after we had secured the high-voltage network could we begin to put out the fire.”

The cause of the deadly crash is under investigation, writes Euronews: Local media reports that the railway crossing was closed at the time of the disaster.
